Bilehsavar Border Terminal
Bilehsavar border terminal is placed in Ardabil province, north – west of the country and in common border between Iran and Azerbaijan republic. This border is located at a distance of 166 Km from the center of the province. The nearest city of the opposite country to this border is Bilehsavar with 20Km distance.
Significant increase in trade exchanges between Iran and Azerbaijan revealed the necessity of organization of this border terminal and lead to start some studies on organization plan of this border terminal. Launching Nakhjavan – Jolfa- Bilehsavar- Bakoo bus line, the necessity of passenger hall development has been prioritized. This border terminal is known as authorized official border by the act of cabinet on April 29, 1996.
The religious and cultural interest of Muslim nations of the two countries for relationship and idea exchanges with one another, aid to Muslims, creating transit line for passengers from Jolfa to Bilehsavar and increasing fuel exchanges through Iran are the reasons that reveal the necessity of boosting Iran – Azerbaijan cooperation.
The construction plan of Bilehsavar border terminal is consist of 3 phases. The first phase of this project has been implemented.The second phase of this project is landscaping which is under construction. The third phase involves the development of the existent passenger hall. The area of this land is 11 ha and some 29 billion rials have been expected for construction of this terminal. It is predicted that the development plan of passenger hall to begin in near future.
