Sarakhs Border Terminal
Sarakhs border terminal is placed in Khorasan Razavi province, north – east of Iran and in common border with Turkmenistan. This border is 186 km away from Mashhad, the center of Khorasan Razavi province. It is to be noted that the nearest city of the opposite country to this border is Sarakhs with 5km distance.
The existence of special economic region near Sarakhs terminal and Mashhad – Sarakhs – Tajan railway which at the end connect this railway to central – Asia Countries are the reasons that increase the importance of Sarakhs border terminal. This border terminal is known as authorized official border by the act of cabinet on April 29, 1996.
According to the membership of Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan in north-south corridor, this border terminal is considered as a communication bridge between above mentioned countries and India and Russian – federation. Also, most of exported cargos are transited to Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan through this border terminal by Iranian road fleet (because this route is very short). In other hand, due to the weather, particular climate of the province and the existence of the shrine of Imam Reza (As) in Mashhad, each year many pilgrims enter to this province through this border.
Sarakhs border terminal has a passenger hall with 1700 square meters area which has been constructed in 2001 and utilized in 2002. The commercial hall of this border terminal with an area of 700 square meters has been constructed in the year of 2005. It is to be noted that 13 billion rials have been expended for construction of this border terminal.
