Lotfabad Border Terminal
Lotfabad border terminal is placed in Khorasan Razavi province, north- east of Iran and in common border between Iran and Turkmenistan. This terminal is 280 km away from Mashad (center of Khorasan Razavi province) and Dargaz with 25 km distance is the nearest city of Khoransan Razavi province to this border terminal. It is to be noted that Artigh is the nearest city of the opposite country to this border with 4km distance.
After fragmentation of united Soviet and central Asian Republics independency and political – economic relations among Iran and above mentioned countries such as Turkmenistan constructing this border terminal became important as one of the main goods transit and passenger traffic points. This border terminal is known as authorized official border by the act of cabinet on April 29, 1996.
Following the independce of neighboring countries in north and north – west of Khoransan Razavi province, mutual commercial relations were established and subsequently road transportation that is the most easy and cheap type of goods and passenger traffic in Iran and republics of east Caspian sea (Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan) have been improved noticeably.
Lotfabad border terminal has been constructed in a land with 7 hectares area with two unit passenger and commercial hall. Preparation of lotfabad border terminal organization plan and classification phase, the construction of commercial hall for doing administrative formalities is under performance. It is to be noted that more than 9 Billion Rials credit have been allocated for construction of this border terminal.
